ERIN MELLING
ATTORNEY

Erin L. Melling is an attorney practicing primarily out of our Belle Fourche, South Dakota office. She is a Hettinger, North Dakota native who now resides in Black Hills of South Dakota.  After graduating from Hettinger High School, Erin attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota.  Erin graduated with Honors with a dual major in Political Science and History in 2008. Thereafter, Erin went on to attend the University of South Dakota School of Law wherein she earned her Juris Doctorate in 2013.

 

Upon the completion of law school, Erin returned to her hometown of Hettinger and joined the local law firm.  Erin has been a partner in Melling and Roseland Law, PC, and its predecessor, since 2015.  Additionally, Erin serves as the Managing Partner in the firm.  In 2020, Erin established an office of Melling & Roseland Law, PC in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
 
Erin specializes in general civil litigation with particular interest in estate planning, simple or complex. Additionally, she has vast experience with family law, probate, real estate including oil and gas, business organizations and general civil litigation in both North and South Dakota.  She continues to practice in both states regularly.  In addition to her abilities as a civil litigation attorney, Erin, has served as Slope County North Dakota State’s Attorney and Assistant Adams County North Dakota State’s Attorney since 2015. 
 
In addition to her professional responsibilities, Erin serves on the  Board of Directors for Badlands Head Start, volunteers Pro Bono for Access to Justice, and volunteers for various animal organizations throughout the area.  Erin is also a member of the North Dakota Association of Justice; North Dakota States Attorney Association, Butte County Chamber of Commerce, and the Hettinger Alcohol and Drug Coalition.   

In her free time, Erin enjoys spending time with her friends and family and her beloved animals.  She is an avid fisher-woman, competitive shooter, gardener and concert attendee.  She also enjoys traveling as much as possible.    


Erin is licensed to practice in North Dakota, the Federal District of North Dakota, South Dakota, the Federal District of South Dakota, and Montana.

AARON ROSELAND

ATTORNEY

Aaron Roseland is an attorney practicing out of Hettinger, North Dakota.  After graduating from rural Faulkton, South Dakota, Aaron attended the University of South Dakota where he graduated with Honors with a major in Political Science and double minors in Economics and Speech Communication.  After undergrad, Aaron attended law school at the University of South Dakota and received his Juris Doctorate in 2009. Since August 8th, 2009, he has proudly served the people of Adams County as their State's Attorney. Since 2012, Aaron has served on the North Dakota State's Attorney's Association Board of Directors and in 2016-2017 served as that Board's President.  Aaron has also served on the Legislative Committee on Sentencing Alternatives, as well as on the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation Advisory Board.  In 2022, Aaron was given the distinction of receiving the Community Service Award from the North Dakota Bar Association.


In addition to his duties to the people of Adams County, Aaron is also a partner in Melling & Roseland Law, P.C.  Aaron has been a partner with the firm, and its predecessors, since 2009.  In 2019, Aaron and his partner, Erin Melling, established Melling & Roseland Law, PC and together they offer a powerful combination that can offer expertise and experience in almost any area of the law.

Aaron has served as the Corson County, South Dakota Public Defender since 2020 and works extensively in criminal defense in northwest South Dakota.  Aaron also has experience with family law, oil and gas, real estate law, contracts, business organization, and general civil litigation.
 
Aaron spends most of his free time traveling with his wife, Katie, and following his children around the Midwest for their various activities.  He volunteers as a youth wrestling coach for the Hettinger Huskies and, occasionally, finds a way to sneak in a round of golf, or three.  Aaron has also been a member of the Jaycees, the Hettinger Area Chamber of Commerce, the Hettinger Alcohol and Drug Coalition, the Hettinger Public School Board, and various other community fundraising organizations.
 
Aaron is licensed to practice in North Dakota, the Federal District of North Dakota, South Dakota, and the Federal District of South Dakota.  Through his enrollment in the South Dakota Listserv, the North Dakota State’s Attorneys Listserv, and his membership in the North Dakota Association for Justice, he has access to a wide range of colleagues across the country who provide valuable insight and references that enables him to address almost any need that may walk through the door.
